Reception - Lent A Term

 Hi Reception. We hope you have all had a wonderful and restful weekend! This is our final week of learning before half term. We are looking forward to seeing you all on our Zoom call this week, where we are going to talk a little bit about Valentine’s Day. Maybe you can have a think before the session about someone you love and all of the reasons why you love them!

This week in Mathematics, we are starting a new unit on Grouping and Sharing. We will be understanding the difference between equal and unequal groups, and you will have a chance to create equal groups of animals for Old McDonald’s farm. In maths, lessons 3 and 4, we learn to count in groups of twos and tens! We practise skip counting and use this skill to find how many pairs and groups of ten there are. 

In English, we are reading 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson. We will be listening very carefully so that we can identify rhyming words in the story. We will find out all about what a caption is and write our own! We will then create a list of ingredients for our very own magic potion! We can't wait to see more of your amazing writing on j2e.

This week in Primary Knowledge we are learning all about forces. We explore the forces: push, pull and twist. We also learn about air resistance and the force of gravity. You can explore a range of objects and see what force you need to use to get them to move. In our second lesson, we learn all about wheels and why different vehicles have different sized wheels! You also get a chance to invent your own wheels and explore which wheels work best. This week in PSHE we will be reading the book ‘Home’ by Helen Lumgair. We will be discussing what the word home means to us and the different types of homes that exist. At the end of the lesson, the children will get to create their own home using a range of resources such as junk modelling, straws, paint paper, pens and glue.
